Our Team

Mark Coleman

Mark Coleman MA is the founder of the Mindfulness Training Institute. He has studied mindfulness meditation practices for twenty-five years and taught mindfulness workshops, courses, and retreats in Europe, Asia, and the U.S. for the past twelve years. Mark teaches meditation at Spirit Rock Meditation Center and regularly at institutions like Omega, Esalen, and Insight Meditation Society. He is a trainer at Search Inside Yourself Leadership Institute (SIYLI). As a mindfulness consultant, he has led trainings in corporate settings, including Proctor & Gamble, Gap, and Prana. He is also a certified Integral Coach and has an MA in Clinical Psychology. Mark is the author of Awake in the Wild: Mindfulness in Nature as a Path of Self-Discovery and Poems from the Wild.

Martin Aylward is a founding teacher and co-director of the Mindfulness Training Institute. He has taught Mindfulness worldwide for 18 years, and has personally trained over 100 Mindfulness teachers from 20 countries. Martin has been deeply involved with Mindfulness practice for 30 years, and is visiting faculty for the Masters (MSc) in Mindfulness Based Interventions, UC Dublin, Ireland.
Shauna L. Shapiro, Ph.D., is an associate professor at Santa Clara University. She began her study of psychology and meditation at Duke University and received her doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Arizona. Shauna pursued her training in mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) and mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT). Shauna has conducted extensive clinical research investigating the effects of mindfulness-based therapies and is the co-author of The Art and Science of Mindfulness: Integrating Mindfulness into Psychology and the Helping Professions.
Grove Burnett is co-founder and guiding teacher of the Vallecitos Mountain Ranch and has practiced meditation for over 25 years. Grove also has had a distinguished career as an environmental lawyer, is co-founder of the Western Environmental Law Center, and has received many awards for his path breaking work in environmental law, including being named six times to "The Best Lawyers in America."  He conducts mindfulness-based trainings for lawyers and judges, mental health professionals, and nonprofit organizations.
Keith Bailey is a Vipassana meditator and communications specialist whose career has spanned over 20 years, working with some of the most prestigious organizations in the world, including: Microsoft, Lufthansa, Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer, American Express, and AT&T. Keith has trained executive groups in Europe, Asia, and the Americas.
